South India Spring 2007

Our first trip to India was a great success! Thank you for all your prayers - God was faithful in answering them all.

We held a three day pastor's conference and four day evangelistic festival in Tamilnadu followed by a one day pastor's conference and two day festival in Andhra Pradesh.

Here are some general interest pictures. More specific pictures of each place are at right.

Tamilnadu

Pastors Conference:  Melur, April 23-25

Evangelistic Festival:  Dingidul, April 26-29

(both near Madurai)

Pastor's Conference:

Almost 900 pastors traveled from all over South India to take part in a three day conference. Each day included four messages and hours of singing and praying. I preached through most of the lessons in my book and it was very well received. At the end of the conference we supplied each pastor with a copy of my book (in Tamil), a copy of the Jesus Film and a copy of the God's Story Film, also in Tamil. The pastors were very excited about taking these resources back to their homes to share with the people. I believe that this conference will probably have the greatest long term impact of any project that we undertook on this trip.

Good News Festival:

There is nothing quite like preaching against false gods while a large neon Hindu god flashes on the street next to you. It is something I will not soon forget. Dindigul is one of the least Christian towns in the area and I had a great time sharing God's Word there. Hundreds of people responded to the gospel and we pray that the work will continue to grow in this place.

Andhra Pradesh

Vacation Bible School, April 30

Pastor's Conference, May 1

Evangelistic Festival, May 1,2: Vishakhapatnam

We packed a lot into two and a half days in Vishakhapatnum. I helped conclude their five day VBS by helping with a program on the evening of April 30th, then held a two session meeting with over 200 pastors during the day on May 1. The evenings of May 1 and 2nd were busy with the Good News Festivals, from which we received 400 inquiry cards. The local pastors are now busy following up and meeting all these people. We also took some time to visit some local churches (the grass hut in the bottom row of pictures is one example.)
