"Meet Jim Wilson"
Volume 2 Issue 2 March-April, 2005
I first got to know Jim a couple of years ago when, at 74, he
became the oldest member of my college / career group at the Evangelical Free
Church of Huntington Beach. Jim is one of those rare people that seems to
physically exude God’s presence—you spend time with him and come away from
it thinking that your face must be glowing. With his wisdom and experience, he
was truly a Godsend to the college/career ministry and when I started DJEM, Jim
was one of the first people I approached to be on the board.
He and his wife, Joyce, have been in missionary service with Wycliffe Bible
Translators since 1952. Their assignments have included a language analysis and
Scripture translation project among the Cuicateco people of Mexico and later a
number of administrative positions in Brazil. Jim worked in the field of liaison
with the Brazilian government and also held the posts of Associate Director and
then Director of the work in that country.
Though formally retired, Jim and Joyce are active volunteers with Wycliffe,
working to mobilize African Americans for worldwide missionary
service-especially in the field of Bible translation.
Being deeply committed to getting the Word out, Jim agreed to link up with
DJEM, a ministry with the same commitment.
